A John C. Roberts applied for a Texas pension #A-29601 from Caldwell Co., Texas. Would this be your man?

When he enlisted as an 18 year old at Dallas, Texas, Sept. 17, 1861, he was credited with a value of his horse at $140 and Equipment at $20 consisting of a "Double B. S. Gun and Six Shooter." I've never seen valuations for weapons before. Suggest you obtain copies of his service record & pension files, a service available on this message board.

Of interest regarding membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy. It is my understanding that no one would not be allowed into the UDC if the ladies ancestor had taken the oath of allegiance to the Yankees prior to Lee's surrender. Awarding of Tennessee Confederate pensions has this same caveat.
