When the cavalry and infantry elements of Waul's Legion were separated, the cavalry portion became Willis' Cavalry Battalion. In 1864 Willis' Battalion and the 2nd. Missouri Cavalry Regiment were both in McCulloch's Cavalry Brigade serving in Mississippi. It could be that in 1864, because of injury or illness, Adams was detailed to a Commissary Depot in Mississippi. S.F. Logan could be someone who worked with Adams at the Depot and vouched for him after the war when he applied for a pension.
