The person you are researching has compiled service records in the National Archives as both Wade H. Walters and Wade Walters.

Under Wade H. Walters, there is one entry: his name appears on the muster-in roll of Co. I (Capt. Patrick Henry), 17th Texas Cavalry, dated 15 March, 1862. His age is given as 21 years, his horse valued at $200. and equipments at $30.

Under Wade Walters, there is one entry: he appears on the Company I muster roll for March 1 to June 30, 1862. States he was enlisted at Larissa, Texas on March 10, 1862, by Capt. Thomas Jackson, for a period of one year. Under remarks: "Died June 8, 1862, at Austin, Arkansas."

For a brief summary of the history of the 17th Texas Cavalry, go to the "Soldiers and Sailors System" at www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/, click on "Regiments", and fill in the required fields. A complete history of the regiment is contained in James M. McCaffrey's book, "This Band of Heroes".
