In Response To: Letter from the Texas Brigade ()

"In Hood's brigade, the 18th Georgia was on the field, but not engaged. Hampton's brigade was present, and the Hampton Legion Infantry was engaged on the right of the road leading from Barhamsville to Eltham's Landing. It suffered only three or four wounded, and one man mortally wounded. Bachman's German [S.C.] Artillery battery was engaged and exchanged with the gunboats, but without casualties. The 14th GA and the 16 N. C. of Hampton's Brigade were present but not engaged."

Hodd was promoted to Brigadier and took command of the Texas Brigade Maech 7, 1862.

" The Texas Brigade participated in many battles and engagements throughout the War for Southern Independence. It was one of the most notable fighting units of the renowned Army of Northern Virginia. The Texas Brigade could be considered Lee's "Shock Troops." Several members of our camp had ancestors that served in Hood's Texas Brigade.

Hood's Texas Brigade consisted of regiments of the following:

1st Texas Infantry,
4th Texas Infantry,
5th Texas infantry,
3rd Arkansas Infantry,
18th Georgia Infantry,
8 Infantry companies of Hampton's Legion (South Carolina)
Rielly's Battery (C0. D)
1st North Carolina Artillery Regiment."

It's intersting in the letter that the writer does not seem aware there were other than Texas units in the Texas Brigade. Stan
