Jefferson Davis ignored at Fort Davis

Fort Davis in West Texas is beautifully restored as a National Historic Site. Big Bucks were spent. It was named after Jefferson Davis, with barely a mention of him, not even a vignette in the fancy gallery. So I complained. The park ranger said they had a picture of him in the auditorium, which was a tiny room, and he was stuck in a dark corner. WELL, I got madder and was told by the park ranger that the Fort was restored as in the time after the war when the Buffalo Soldiers were there, and Davis was Secretary of War when the Fort was named after him, and wasn't important to that time period. His name was on the marker out front, that was enough.

Now it seems to me that a Fort, now a National Historic Site, honored with the name of President Jefferson Davis, should brag about him. We need to let them know as Texans that Jefferson Davis needs to have his story told in a vignette in the gallery, and have his portrait in a more prominent location. I picked up a comment letter from the superintendent, Chuck Hunt, he wants to know what we think of the Park. His address is:

You can also write to the Fort via the website form at http://www.nps.gov/foda/contacts.htm .

I took lots of photos and can send them to anyone who has an appropriate website to put them, so we can refer people to that URL.
