I too might have an ancestor in the TST. He is Thomas F. Jones of Hopkins Co., TX. His widow, Mary Jane, completed and was approved for a pension. On the doc, she said that he was in the TX 33d Cavalry. After researching this, the 33d was not in the area of Hopkins Co. nor does the 33d musters show a Thomas F. Jones or similiar. However, the TX 23d does have a T.F. Jones. The 23d was made up of men from Hopkins Co. Another however - a cousin of mine found a muster roll of a Thomas F. Jones in the 2d Regiment Cavalry, Texas Sate Troops, Hopkins Co. This unit appears to have served for only six months in 1863-1864.

Could it be possible that if the T.F. Jones in the 23d TX Cavalry and the Thomas F. Jones in the 2d Regiment are one in the same, that he served in both, perhaps one before the other and that qualified his widow for a pension?
