I really am not quailified to answer your question, but suggest you look at the list you mentioned from the Texas Archives. I am going to guess the is a militia list. See if you can find other men who were in the same militia group and look for their names in CSA regiments because often (but not always) men from a militia group would join together in a CSA unit.
