CPT John W Bone: were there 2 of them?

The service records for CPT John W Bone overlap in a way that makes me think there were 2 separate individuals:

One in the Tx State Troops, 2nd Cavalry and Terry's Regiment, where the last record has him under arrest in Austin, March 1865.

The other was The leader of Cpt Bone's Unattached Company and in Bourland's Regiment. His last record is Oct 1864, present in Cpt. Bone's Co.

Census and genealogy seem to indicate this is possible.

Identical name, grade, and region? Mere coincidence or....

Anybody have any ideas on this?
