Wow! That is really interesting! I know at the end of the war it was not at all unusual for men to desert. I think the numbers were quite high by then. I don't know where his company was at that time, but I would like to know if he was one of the 150+ men ( I think that is about the correct figure) that left Galveston and headed home....without permission.
Since I posted my initial msg. last night, I have learned so much.
I have other names of relatives who served and who I wish to find out more about so I will have more postings soon.
