Would the above references to "insurrection" be related to the "troubles" that resulted in the lynching of a number of folks around the Gainsville area and in the counties along the Red River basin? Not sure of my chronology, but I seem to remember these as occuring just before the formal outbreak of hostilities in '61. (Have some evidence that my GGrandpappy may have been involved in the pro-Southern side of these activities out of Hunt County...).

Have "heard" that this was a spill-over by anti-slavery sympathizers from "Bloody Kansas" via the Indian Territory. Anyone have any sort of handle or background on that?
