Burnet vs Burnett

Patti,
You seem pretty certain that "Burnet" is the proper spelling of the Major's name. I've seen it spelled both ways (one T and two), and have no dog in this particular fight. That being said, I spelled it with two T's in my book, and if that's wrong, I'd like to change it in the second printing. Can you give me a compelling argument that the one-T spelling is the correct one?
