Re: Capt. John W. Bone: Were there 2 of them?

Mike, I think you have given us a very important clue. I did not know about the 11th Cav CPT John.

With regard to the two CPT Johns: This 11th Cav CPT John could be one and all the other stuff could be the second CPT John.

The 11th Tx Cav was certainly from the right area, up on the Red River. Their chaplain was Maj. Henry Bone, but he does not seem to be closely related to the "13 Bone Brothers" and neither are the Coryell County Bones.

CWSS does not show a John in the 11th, so his service with them must have been rather short for every record to be missing. Did they have some of the short term enlistees - 30 day, 3 month, and such?

Do you know if there is any overlap or connection of the 11th and the 2nd Cav Rgt, Tx State Troops? The 2nd was put into Bourland's sometime after 5 Dec 1863. Then later CPT Bone's Company was formed before August of 1864.

Any idea why they would form an independent company out of Bourland's regiment? That seems to me to be a very strange thing to do.

Then it seems they decided that was a mistake, so there seems to have been a pattern of grabbing up the independent companies and assigning them to regiments. I think it would be entirely logical for them to do so just to simplify the confusion.

I wonder if this could be why Cpt Bone is under arrest in Austin Co in March 1865 in Terry's Regiment. After running his own independent company, he may have had trouble accepting "regimentation".
