Your “G. W. Hardin” was one of 8 deserters of Company ‘D’ and one of 56 deserters of the 22d Texas
Cavalry plus he was one of 481 who reenlisted in the Confederacy. ..Only 481 of about 2,000 deserters
hiding out in North Texas reenlisted on the promise that they would be given amnesty.

In my 1,046-page book, I dedicated about 40 pages to the study of the above statements. ..This is the first
time this subject has been addressed because the major reference are THE .BOURLAND .PAPERS that had
never been transcribed. ..I am the first to transcribe these records. ..Then in order to make sense of those
transcriptions, I had to transcribe 243 militia listings along with the accompanying correspondence.

In summation, I have uncovered four major studies that had never been addressed — one is cited above.
