Union officers from Texas

Im currently serving as a staff officer in Va in the Army of the James under General Godfrey Weitzel. Im originally from Texas born and raised, however Im looking to incorporate my Texas roots into my impression, but cannot do so until I have located an individual, who is either from Texas and has frontier experiance or some soldier or officer contained within the units that comprise The Army of the James that served on the frontier in any capacity. Im open to suggestions and or advice on how I can locate such an individual. I do know that Texas furnished only 5 regiments to the Union cause, but Im thinking some soldier or officer did in fact make it to the east to serve in another capacity. Must be a Texan out there whose deeds have gone unnoticed and whose record is on the back pages of history and deserves recognition! Please email me at john.saporito@us.army.mil

Thank you
John
