Alan is speculating that due to the statement in his Confederate Compiled Military Service Record (aka, "service file")that he wanted to take the "Oath of Allegiance", that he probably or possibly, enlisted in a Union unit as a "Galvanized Yankee". As I had stated to you earlier, in our email communications, I checked the U.S. Volunteer regiments, and especially, the 5th and 6th regiments, as they were formed from men interred at Camp Morton in Indianapolis. There IS a James Parker in the 6th U.S. Volunteer Infantry; however, he is a different man, as I've discovered from reviewing his pension file.

I can not find a record that your James Parker served in the Union army.
