Baylor's Ladies' Rangers; John W. Baylor ?

George Martin,

re: Baylor's Regiment Texas Cavalry as Company I.
.
Question: Was this "Baylor's Regiment Texas Cavalry as Company I" what they meant? ..This Company I was also called the "Baylor's Ladies' Rangers" commanded by John R. Baylor, but I have no evidence that J.R. Baylor was still in Texas after April, 1864. ... although later he could have been in South Texas.
.
It is more likely that it was the "John W. Baylor" who was in the 8th Texas Cavalry, Co C, which was B.F. Terry's Texas Rangers (not D.S. Terry's Texas Cavalry formed in mid-1864). ..And this is probably J.R. Baylor's son, "J.W. Baylor, b-1846" ... young to be commanding a unit.

Consider also, George Wythe Baylor is listed in a December 1864 outline of active Texas CSA units (ORsI,v51/4[S#86]p1142.) ...This G.W. Baylor is also named in the analogous October 1864 (ORsIv41/3[S#85]p967.) and January 1864 (ORsIv34/2[S#62]p932.) listings.
.
John Robert Baylor. ..I have a photo of "John Robert Baylor" from the Harold B. Simpson Collection of the Hillsboro TX library, with the caption "Lt-Col. John R. Baylor, 2nd Texas Cavalry Regt., also, C.S.A. Congressman, 1864-65" ...This implies that he was in Richmond VA.
.
Below are my Baylor entries from my 150-page Name Index.

Quoting:
Terry's Regiment Texas Cavalry was organized and mustered into the service of the Confederate States about July 6, 1864, with ten companies, A to K, which were composed principally of former members of the Texas State Troops. It was dismounted in the early part of 1865. Company A was formerly Company F, 37th Regiment Texas Cavalry, which became an independent company about March 1864 and was assigned to this regiment July 6, 1864. Captain R. H. D. Sorrell's Company was first assigned to Griffin's Battalion Texas Infantry as Company G, then to this regiment and subsequently to Baylor's Regiment Texas Cavalry as Company I.
