Alan, thank you for that info. How would I go about getting the prisoner-of-war papers.

John D Rains who listed his age as 52, was the father of John D Rains Jr[?] J.D Rains may have been the brother of John Jr . His name was James.

A older brother William S was also with this co. I have his pension papers. His request was finally granted in 1906. John D Rains Sr was denied his request for civil war pension but I have a record of a audit request for services in 1836 that was granted in 1840.

I believe these are my Gr-gr father and Uncles.
Hoping to find some record that lists the next of kin.
