Re: 30th Texas Casualties - Battle of Massard Prai

Could you tell me the name of your book about county militias and whether it contains Erath Co.

Do you have any information on the following two brothers, who reportedly served in the 30th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Gurley's) (1st Texas Partisan Rangers)?

Name: Cornelius Majors O'Neal
Son of George W. O'Neal and Mary Majors
Born: 15 Oct 1832, Tennessee (possibly McNairy Co.)
Resided: Titus Co., TX, 1850; Erath Co., 1850's-1903
Died: 8 Jan 1903, Erath Co., Texas
Buried: Old Dublin Memorial Park Cemetery, Erath Co., Texas
Spouse: Sarah Eveline Keith, born 28 June 1839 Tennessee; died 21 Feb 1897, Erath Co., Texas; buried Old Dublin Memorial Park Cemetery. Daughter of William Harrison ("Big Bill") Keith, who may have been a Texas Ranger (Texas State Police).

Note: According to an internet site that lists CSA veterans from Erath Co., C. M. Majors' tombstone indicates that he served in Company G, 30th Tennessee Cavalry, but I assume this is mistaken and the tombstone should read 30th Texas Cavalry. Also, I have seen a statement that C.M. O'Neal commanded a company or militia in Erath Co., TX, possibly around the 1870's or 1880's. His brother-in-law, William Harrison Keith, Jr., reportedly was in C.M. O'Neal's militia company (perhaps also called Minute Men?). Do you have him on any of your militia lists for Erath Co.?

Name: Robert N. O'Neal
Son of George W. O'Neal and Mary Majors
Born: ca. 1831, Tennessee (Possibly McNairy Co.)
Resided: Titus Co., 1850; Erath Co., 1880
Died: After 1880; possibly Erath Co., TX
Spouse: Amanda (last name unknown; perhaps Graham?)

I think Cornelius M. O'Neal's brothers-in-law (William Harrison Keith, Jr. and William M. Morrison) may also have been in the 30th Texas Cavalry.

Thanks, Frank McFarland
