The Texas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: O'Neal, Keith, & Majors of Titus & Erath Count

Unfortunately, I have very little information on early McFarlands in Texas. My ancestor William McFarland (b. Rutherford Co., NC; d. at CSA camp at Richmond, Va.). William enlisted for one year with the South Carolina Sharpshooters. After serving one year, he then re-enlisted for "three years or the duration of the war" and died about one month later of measles in a camp near Richmond, Va., leaving his wife with seven children, all under the age of about 12 years. All of his children except one son eventually moved to Texas after around 1870.
