Border's batallion with a strength of seven companies was ordered to Camp Ford near Tyler, on 13 April 1864. On April 27 Fulcrod's battalion was ordered to Tyler, where it was consolidated with Border batallion. T. Scott Anderson was named Colonel of the Consolidated Regiment and Border was Lt. Col. Borders was English by birth, but had come to Texas prior to 1836 and had fought in the San Jacinto Campaign. The unit stayed at Camp Ford until July 1864.
