Location of McPherson's death: Take I-75 to exit 247 (I-20). Take I-20 east to exit 61, Maynard Terrace. At the end of the ramp turn right and make an immediate right onto McPherson Rd. Travel 0.4 miles to Monument Ave. The monument marking the site is in the center of the road on the left.

This is just south of I-20, north of Glenwood Road, and east of Moreland Avenue and Turner Field.

I did not find the info you need, but learned that John Bell Hood, Recently named to replace Johnston at Atlanta, was McPherson's roomate and friend at West Point. He had this ti say: "I will record the death of my classmate and boyhood friend, General James B. McPherson, the announcement of which caused me sincere sorrow. Since we had graduated in 1853, and had each been ordered off on duty in different directions, it has not been our fortune to meet. Neither the years nor the difference of sentiment that had led us to range ourselves on opposite sides in the war had lessened my friendship; indeed the attachment formed in early youth was strengthened by my admiration and gratitude for his conduct toward our people in the vicinity of Vicksburg. His considerate and kind treatment of them stood in bright contrast to the course pursued by many Federal officers."

If you post your question on the Texas board you might get an answer. Stan
