The Texas in the Civil War Message Board

Brandon: Baylor's 2nd Reg Ariz, 15th Cav & others

I am looking for info on my Brandon family who came to TX by 1870s from TN, AL, & MO through Arkansas. I have no way of knowing as of yet IF my specific Brandon family members served during the war between the states, or if so what sides they each may have chosen. Most records seem to indicate these Brandons were probably all or mostly CSA as far as we can tell, and at least one or two definitively served with Texas companies.

I have some family stories and oral traditions (written down abt 1970 by a great aunt) about the brothers coming to Texas from Arkansas to be Texas rangers and to fight Indians, but as far as I can tell, I see no verifiable records of ranger or sheriff service or even local militia rosters for Charles L., Hugh F, John Adam or even "cousin" Rufus Brandon. The Civil War rosters have too little specific data to say if any of the folks listed may or may not be mine without a great deal of further study.

I do have some Civil War records for this bunch:
*Rufus Lafayette Brandon served with the CSA in Baylor's Regiment, Texas Cavalry (2nd Regiment, Arizona Brigade.)
some info is here: http://members.tripod.com/~azrebel/page14.html
I would like to know if there is any way to get a roster list or more information about this regiment and my Brandon.

*W. W. Brandon (may or may not be Walter Wadsworth Brandon, son of John) served with the CSA in the 1st Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Johnston's.)
*Walter W. (more likely our Brandon) served with the CSA in the 15th Regiment, Texas Cavalry.

*There are no “Benton Brandons” listed in known files, but there are a few L. B Brandons.

*There are a whole slew of Charles and a few Charles L Brandons listed for both sides of service. (The more known war hero of the CSA Charles Lafayette Brandon of TN is not the same person as our Charles L. Brandon b1834 Va lived in TN , AL, NV, MO and then TX.)

*There are too many J.A., Johns and John A.'s to make any assumptions about which one may be my direct ancestor John Adam Brandon b1850 in MO. I will need to go through all the "possibles" one by one.

*Hugh Harvey Brandon, a supposed cousin of my branch, and his son Hugh G Brandon were in the CSA, Hugh G served in Cocke's Regiment, Arkansas Infantry. There is an unknown Hugh L who served in the 16th Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry. There is no record of a Hugh F Brandon who would be another brother to my Charles L, John Adam, Benton, Walter Wadsworth Brandons.

I am looking for further info on the Tx regimens they may have served in. The Brandons came from MO & Ark towards the middle and end of the war, and lived in Cranfil's Gap/Turnersville area, Throckmorton and Coryell County, and settled mostly around Tehuacana/Wortham in Navarro and Limestone counties by late 1880s.

Any connections would be much appreciated, and I will gladly share info as well.
