Pvt. T. Chaffin was in Company C, 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment. If your Chaffin was over 50 he was probably discharged in May of 1862 when the Army was reorganized. All soldiers over 42 and under 18 were sent home. There are several sites to look at the War history of the 9th, such as mine below. You could also read Grisscom's Diary, which details the 9th role in the war. If he was 30 and made it through the war, he had an unbelievable history.
