Officers of this company from Clarksville TX were Capt. N. C. Gould, age 26; 1st Lieut. M. L. Sims, age 25; 2nd Lieut. Lafayette L. Bailey, age 24; 1st Sgt. John L. Jamison, age 22. Private Robert Gordon Lane, age 25, was elected 2nd Lieut. Also on roll was Sgt. John J. Goodloe, age 19. Sims, Bailey and Lane were captured at Fort Donelson and imprisoned on Johnson's Island. I don't see a prisoner-of-war record for any of the enlisted men mentioned here. Officers were exchanged, sent down the Mississippi on the steamer John H. Done and released at Vicksburg MS, Sept. 20, 1862.

Officers and men had been Co. "D", Forrest's Cavalry Regiment. After reorganization, they formed Co. "K", 23rd Texas Cavalry, DeBray's Brigade. Lane was appointed Surgeon of the 23rd Texas Cavalry.

H. J. Goodloe enlisted when the company reorganized on Oct. 1, 1862. As a general rule, servants/slaves could not appear on roll as enlisted men. They do appear anonymously on company requisitions. For that reason I see little or no chance that H. J. Goodloe would have been a "Black Confederate."
