I was wrong about the birthplace of "Paton Hail". He was born in VA as you can see on the census record on my webpage:

Your "Friel Hail" is also listed as a child in this family. I am positive this is your "Pate Hale" that shows him to be age 10 in the 1860 Hunt Co TX cen. You cannot expect a census record to be closer than 2 years off the mark. And by the way, I've found an 11-yr old kid from Hunt Co TX in the Confederacy. This is a state militia.

I did more census work than the law allows when I lived in Kansas City MO two miles from the National Archives, with free parking, and 20 miles from the Mid-Continent Genealogy Library in Independence MO, with free parking. Kansas City is the only metropolitian area in the USA to have two complete sets of the US censuses.
