in East Texas Runnels and Reynolds are one and the same name. I had relatives who spelled the name Reynolds and were called Runnels. Their Tombstones bear the name Reynolds.
And Pete Reynolds, Star baseball player for the Boston Red Sox in the 1960's, was called Pete Runnels by his friends in Pasadena, Texas, where he had a Sporting Goods Store.
