.
Detailed: ..A. P. Fletcher, Co D, Pvt, Aug-Nov 64 teamster; Jan 65 teamster for AQM in Gainesville since Jul 31, 64 by order of Col Bourland.

Bourland probably gave your A.P. Fletcher this rather cushy assignment since he was an older gent, although he had a surplus of older men and young boys. ..A taxing teamster assignment was hauling salt from Shackelford and Wise County while it was outright dangerous to haul prisoners. ..Regimental returns show Bourland had 116 men (of about 850 total) listed as teamsters, at least for one month.

Chances are good that your James Henry Fletcher (b-1847) served in Bourland’s Regt. or one of
the following Texas CSA units.
.
1) LeKoester's Co E, Baird's-Showalter's 4th TX Cav, 4th Arizona Brigade

.
2) Wells' Battalion: Scanland's Company A, most recruits from the Montague Co TX area; Good's-Gillette's Company B, initially many recruits were from the Panola Co TX area

.
3) McCord's 46th Frontier Cavalry

My g-gfather’s (b-1849) assignments in Bourland’s Regt. ....W ’Tip' Graham, Co G, Pvt, Aug 64 Detailed to drive beef; Sep-Nov 64 to drive beef; Jan 65 Detailed in subsistence dept by special order No 240, Sep 24, 64 to report to Capt J.S. Fisher A.C.S. by order of Gen E Kirby Smith.
.
Beef contractors, such as John Simpson Chisum, pressused Bourland and other commanders to permit “reliable” soldiers to drive beeves. Records show that Bourland had 77 men who drove beef at least one month.
.
Keep in mind that since your J.H. Fletcher turned age 18 about Dec 1864 was forced to join a CSA military unit. ... “Some men went directly to West Texas to enroll in a military unit because they "did not wish to be ordered out of state but would go to any part of country [Texas] rather than be drafted [into the Confederate Army]." per my web page.

I hope we can prove that your James Henry Fletcher should be added to my listing on:
