The NPS site shows only the 6th and the 30th TX Cav. for JWC. I did find a site for the 12th and with a roster and no Clanton.

I also have from a long ago source him and his father joining the 6th or maybe it was the 12th? and deserting as bounty jumpers. I see no derog info for JWC in anything on the web and assume he did o.k. in the 30th?

This is important as I just received notice that I can order a VA tombstone for him and plant it with the SCV/UDC assistance in the grave I am sure he is buried in by some varied evidence..
