The 8th Va, of Garnett's brigade, was posted on the right flank of the brigade, with the left-hand regiment of Kemper's brigade, the 3rd Va, on it's right. The 8th either passed to the left of the Codori house, or split around it, on it's way to the wall. The color bearers were shot down several times before the 8th reached the wall, and the flag was finally torn off it's staff and hidden under the coat of one of the men so it wouldn't be captured. The 8th went over the wall intermixed with the men of the 3rd Va.
