Hermitage Fair Gounds Instructional Camp

Looking for information regarding the Hermitage Fair Gounds Instructional Camp, Richmond, Virginia. As I understand it, it was the "basic training" camp for Confederate Soldiers. My great grandfather joined the Black Eagle Rifles, Company E of the 18th Regiment (Garnett), Hunton's Brigade, Virginia Infantry, mustered April 25, 1861. He enlisted at Walton's Mill in Cumberland County, Virginia on 23 April 1861. He enlisted for one year but would remain in the Virginia army for the remainder of the war. On the 6th of May, 1861 Thomas appears on a return of Artisans in the 2nd Battalion, Virginia Volunteers at Hermitage Fair Gounds Instructional Camp, Richmond, Virginia.
