The 14th NY Inf Reg - aka 1st Oneida County Reg - organized at uica & contained 5 Co's from that city, one from Rome, one from Booneville, one from Syracuse, one from Lowville, & one from Hudson. Mustered in at Albany for two years on 05/17/1861. Left State for Washington, DC 06/18/61. Stationed at Meridian Hill for one month. 07/22/61 assigned to 1st Brigade, 2nd Div, Army of Northeastern Virginia, encamped on Arlington Heights. Winter qtrs on Miners Hill. 03/13/1862, transferred to 2nd Brigade, 1st Div, 3rd Corps, Army of the Potomac; served in Peninsula Campaign until May 1862. 2nd Brigade, 1st Div, 5th provisional corps. Seven Days battles with 125 dead & wounded at Malvern Hill. Camp at Harrison's Landing. Maryland Campaign. Held in reserve at Antietam. Fredericksburg; loss of 35 killed, wounded, MIA. Winter camp near Falmouth.
Mustered out at Utica, 05/24/1863.
Three years men transferred to 44th NY Inf Reg; later to 140th NY Inf Reg.
Total loss by reg during service, 85 by death from wounds & 44 from other causes.
