My grandfather left my father written details about his family in 1957. In it he referred to his his grandfather Robert Moscrop (b Aug 1833) and his brother John Moscrop (b Nov 1834) having gone to America from England to find their fortune. He tells us that they got separated and ended up fighting on diferent sides in the Civil war. Robert survived the war and when his American wife died he returned to England with their two children. We believe John survived too but stayed in the US. We have no more details than that. It is a long shot I know but does anyone have any details of Moscrop's, Moscrips, Muscrops etc that may help?
