Maj. Rufus R. Dawes of the 6th Wisconsin remarked after the battle that, "this winter is, indeed, the Valley Forge of the War." He didn't specfically mention Falmouth, but was referring to the general Fredericksburg experience. The quote is in A. Wilson Greene's article, "Morale, Maneuver, and Mud- The Army of the Potomac, December 16, 1862-January 26, 1863," (p. 175) which was one of many articles included in "The Fredericksburg Campaign-Decision on the Rappahannock," edited by Gary W. Gallagher,
