My grandfather, Jesse Madison Martin, was a bugle boy with one of Wade Hampton's units. (I am not sure which.) I think he was only 14 or 15 years old. He was from Bulloch County, GA. He died when my father was very young. I am unable to find information on him, but understand he and another somehow got detached from their unit and were walking back in an attempt to reconnect when they got word from someone passing through that the war was over. So, instead of searching further for their unit they decided to walk home.
