I don't know exactly where the Hospital was located, but there clearly was one in April of 1862. Troops transferring from Fredericksburg to Yorktown in March and April seem to have left the railroad at or near Ashland for the march overland down the Peninsula. It would have been located somewhere close to the railroad -- warehouse, church -- though I'm sure the overwhelmed medical system put them anywhere they could find room. The college would be a good guess -- large buildings, and by that time I suspect that classes were cancelled. Lots of men were still there two motnhs later. A number of men of the Hampton Legion were hospitalized ther, and some f them died and are buried, in unmarked graves, in Woodland Cemetery.
