In Response To: grayson virginia militia ()

The only men by this name on record in Confederate units from Virgina enrolled in Company "C", 63rd Virginia Regiment. Company members were from Grayson County, Va. These were Anderson, Byram, James, Jeremiah, Samuel, Toliver and William Gallyean.

William A. Gallyean enlisted in 2nd Co. "C" of the 28th Virginia Regiment, the "Craig Mountain Boys".

I also see a man named Andrew T. Gallyean in Co. "C", 21st North Carolina Regiment.

I really can't say much about militia from Grayson County. These would have been men exempt from regular military service by virtue of age (too young or too old), occupation (minister, physician or civil officer &c.) or physical condition (lame or partially blind &c.).
