I have an excerpt from the Civil War diary pf my great-great-grandfather, Private Christian Appelfeller, who fought at the Battle of Lewisburg with Co. F, 44th Ohio Inf.

The excerpt begins on May 1, 1862, and culminates with his description of the battle that ensued just as the Union troops were putting on their kettles to get breakfast early on the morning of May 23, 1862.
