Sgt. William Smith, 12th Va. Inf.

Searching for letters, journals, and other personal and public documents referencing the life and military service of Sgt. William Smith, who served as color bearer of the 12th Virginia Infantry. He was wounded and captured at South Mountain, Maryland, in 1862, and wounded again in the Wilderness in 1864. After the war he became a colonel of U.S. Volunteers and died of a stroke in the Philippines in 1899. Any and all help appreciated.
Thanks, Ron
