Re: 3rd Virginia
In Response To: Re: 3rd Virginia ()

I found the same to be true. I have some personal effects from him with engraved initials and 3 VA. He enlisted in April ,1861(the same month as the 3rd VA was formed.) I'm sure it's the same soldier, the effects came from his descendants from the same house that he lived in Hallwood,Va.I have a family geneology that states that he and his cousin James Byrd enlisted in April 1861 with the 34th Va. But as you know that's not possible, since the unit wasn't formed until 1862.He did however wind up in this unit.(The geneology was written in 1909 by a family member and I believe they were mistaken.)I believe he served first with the 3rd Va since he was wounded at Seven Pines.(And the markings on his personal effects.) If anyone knows how to get access to the 1861 3rd Va muster roll, please let me know

Thanks for your help,Johnny Reb!
