Hello,

Im a member of the 9th Virginia Cavalry, a reenacting orginization in Oregon. I have a black slouch hat that I tended to loose when I rode at a trot or faster. I got the idea to put a leather string on my hat and make a "hat sting" so that I wont loose it when I ride. I recently was told by my commander that it is not an authentic thing to do but I wanted to do some research and find out. after all, it is only a hat and a leather string and I personally feel that after loosing their hat the first few times, any cavalryman could have got the same idea. If anyone has any ideas about it, please let me know. I find it usefull, but dont want to be too farby either.
