John Hocker Patterson was born in Buckingham Co. in 1847. He was attending Trinity College in Durham NC but left to join the 37th Virginia Calvary Batallion in 1864. He reportedly served until the end of the war. Would anybody have additional details or source information to confirm this. His middle name is frequently misspelled as Hacker or Hooker. His last name can take on several variations as well - Patterson, Patteson, Pattison, Peterson, etc. He died in North Danville in 1889 leaving a widow and two young children. The widow, Fannie, lived in Danville until 1945 but does not seem to have applied for a pension. Mike Lee Lynchburg, Va.
