George w. Libby

I want to learn as much as I can about the Libby family who are associated with Libby prison. My information is that Libby prison was built in 1852 by John Anders, a prominent tobacco manufacture. In 1854 he leased the building to Luther Libby, who used it in the ship chandlery and commission business.

Luther's son, George W Libby, was admitted as a partner in Luther's business in 1860. George served in the confederate army during the Civil War. I'd like to know what regiment George was in.

I seem to have read somewhere that the family that owned the Libby house, on new market Heights near camp Holly we're the same Libbys who ran the prison. Is this true?

I am grareful for any information on these subjects

Bryce
