1. Read the Harold E. Howard regimental history
2. Read Backdoor to Richmond by WSilliam Glenn Robertson which deals with the Bermuda Hundred campaign where the 9th fought.
3. Read The Bermuda Hundred Campaign by Herbert Schiller which also covers this period.
