If I may? Have you found whether this gentleman was a member of the United Confederate Veterans? If he was the SCV may be able to help you in your search. My SCV camp does searches for individuals in our area in order to place stones. If your ancestor was a member of such an organization a record should exist even one where he is buried. If Mr. Field was from Alexandria, may I suggest that you might get in touch with Robert E. Lee Camp #726 of the SCV in Alexandria. Our Camp, "Marshall's Rifles" Co. C, 63rd Virginia Infantry, does research for people, whose family members served in the 63rd and are looking for their ancestors resting place.We even obtain the stone. The same might hold for those from Alexandria. I have yet to see a request of an SCV camp go unheeded.
