This helps substantially. During the month of August, 1862 the 9th Virginia Cavalry was assigned to Fitzhugh Lee's Brigade, Cavalry Division, Army of Northern Virginia and was involved in J.E.B. Stuart's Expedition from Hanover Court House to Federicksburg and also in the 2nd Manassas Campaign. There are no major battles on record in northern Virginia on August 14th. On August 14, 1862 the 9th Virginia Cavalry was encamped on the Pamunkey river with the rest of Fitz KLee's Brigade. No action is recorded for this date but it is possible that this man could have died in an affair between pickets or "videttes" as they wer Known in the cavalry. If this man was killed or mortally wounded in action, then it was probably in one of numerous minor skirmishes that occurred and went practically unrecorded at the time. If this is what happened, then his burial site could be in any number of locations between the three above mentioned places. Unless he was actually buried in a locality's established cemetery in one of those areas then it would be hard to determine the location of said interment. Col. Richard L.T. Beale wrote a history of the 9th in 1865. You might want to read it.
