Jim,
After reading this post something came to me that I had pondered quite a bit. As it was raiesd in my home area and a couple of my ancestors served in the 37th Va., Companies G and I, I have taken quite an interest in the regiment. This is the part of your post of which I speak.... "Absent, sick on 15 August 1862 at Monterey"...In all the correspondence from members of the regiment, and in checking service records of individuals, I have found this phrase to be prevalent... "Absent, sick at Monterey"...I have found this in many instances, not only in the 37th's records, but in other units of the Army of the Northwest. Monterey must have been one heck of a bad place to be posted. What is your take on this?
