Since the area where Mr. Adams lived is also my home region I took an interest in your post. Her is what I have on the man.

ADAMS, JAMES C., age 14, 1860 Grayson County Census, HH#1188, Co. B, 4th VA Reserve Inf., Enl. on 4/16/64 at Independence. AWOL 8/31/64.

Also included here is a list of all Grayson County, Virginia soldiers by the name of Adams who served in the CSA. Just in case you may be related to them.

ADAMS, CREED: Co. A, 26th NC Inf., Enl. 5/17/61 in Ashe Co., NC. Died of disease Carolina City Hosp. 10/61. Res. Grayson Co., VA.

ADAMS, ELIJAH, 43, Farmer, 1860 GCC HH#1480, Co. B, 4th VA Reserve Inf., Enl. on 4/16/64 at Independence. Furloughed on 8/31/64. Age 52, 1870 Grayson Census, occupation Farmer, Res. of Old Town District.

ADAMS, JAMES C., 14, 1860 GCC HH#1188, Co. B, 4th VA Reserve Inf., Enl. on 4/16/64 at Independence. AWOL 8/31/64.

ADAMS, JOHN, 21, Laborer, 1860 GCC HH#1236, Co. F, 63rd VA Inf. Enl. on unknown date. Taken POW near Dallas, GA on 5/25/64. Sent to Rock Island. Enl. in U.S. Navy 6/10/64.

ADAMS, WILLIAM R., 23, 1860 GCC HH#1236, Co. I, 51st VA, Enl. on 12/3/62 in Grayson Co. Taken POW at Waynesboro, VA on 3/2/65, sent to Fort Delaware on 3/12/65, released on oath on 6/22/65, Res. of Grayson Co., fair comp., dark hair, blue eyes, 5'8". On 1900 Grayson Co. Pension list.
