Thanks Keith. It sounds like it's like some of the water up here in Michigan. A real strong sulfur taste and smell to it. I got my information from a diary of Frank Keeler, a soldier in the 16th Mich. who was at Malvern Hill as was my g/grandfather Miron Evans, Co.B, 16th Mich. It doesn't seem like men in the commands of Stonewall Jackson or D.H.Hill would do this as they were very religous men opposed to strong drink. Besides I think you Johnnies would have saved the gunpowder for the fight and the whiskey for the celebration if things would have gone right for them at Malvern Hill.Thanks,Gene.
