Hi Johnny Reb. Sounds like you know your liquor pretty good. Another theory may be is ,jailers used to mix saltpeter( ingredient in gunpowder) in the prisoners food to cut down on sexual desire. Maybe Southern officers were on to something and wanted their men to think less of women and more about the task at hand of defeating the yankee army. Ha,just a thought.. Have a good day,Gene.
