I want to say thank you for all the information and help on my ancestor and his unit. It is so very appreciated. I thought I'd give a short version why I have been so interested in where he was held POW.
My family 5 generations back have been trying for well over 100 years to find out about John Warren Barrows. He has many family legends told about him and a mystery even to his own children who were quite young when he died in 1888.
Timeline:
1860 Vt. census in father's household
1861 VT. enlists in 5th Vt. Infantry Co G
1862 VA POW ...paroled
June 1863 - Mar 1865 ...POW held ????
Aug. 1871 gets married in McLennan Co., TX.
1881...moves to Tombstone, AZ
1888... is murdered on San Pedro Ranch with a wooded club

His father is alive in 1870/80. He has a brother and at least 3 sisters in Vermont, but evidently he doesn't go home or stay one. Makes more sense he is paroled from POW camp and heads to Texas from there. Otherwise , how did a man who is from north end up way out here in Texas then AZ. ?
One brick at a time I guess. But I'm learning all the time. His two brothers-in-laws, fought with the state of Mississippi. One was KIA.

Thank you a bunch.
Phyllis
